The first World Congress was held in London in 1973 and the Congress have
been opened every four years .JSICM hosted the 5th World Congress in Kyoto
(1989) and invited over 2000 colleagues from many countries. They presented 910
scientific papers and discussed eagerly the topics on intensive care medicine.
In 1981,delegates from every societies gathered and decided to establish World
Federation. JSICM have contributed the activities of WFICCM (World
Federation of Intensive and Critical Care Medicine) sending board
directors(1991-1995;Prof O Aochi, 1985-1993;Prof K Amaha, 1993-present;Prof I
Yoshiya).
Vice president and many members of JSICM including 8 invited speakers joined The
9th Western Pacific Association of Critical Care Medicine in February of 1997.
Chairman of committee of international affairs of JSICM and 7 members were
invited as lecturers to the 7th World Congress of Intensive and Critical Care
Medicine held in Otawa, Canada in July of 1997.
