Intensive Care Medicine - present and future

The main theme of JSICM in 21 century will be 
development of medical science and uphold of human dignity.

Intensive care medicine is leading clinical medicine by sophisticated measures of treatments, integrating medical fields which developed on pathophysiology of each organs. 
 

Intensive care medicine aims to analyze and reconstruct disturbed organ functions such as brain, lung, liver, kidneys and so on.
 

The most important problem that intensive care medicine face with is severe infection. Sepsis is a major factor to induce multiple organ failure.
The control of sepsis is key to recover from multiple organ failure. 
 
Physicians and nurses are stirred up by pleasure to see the recovery of the patients who have fallen into the life threatening condition. Intensivists are making eternal effort to proceed humane medicine for critically ill patients.
 

From foundation to present of JSICM

1974 Start of research Society on Intensive Care Medicine
 
1976 Publication of journal named "ICU and CCU", afterward semi-formal journal of JSICM.
 
1979
Change name to JSICM and enactment of regulations.
 
1989

5th WCICM in Kyoto (participants over 2000)
Qualification of first diplomate of board of JSICM
 
1993
Publication of formal Society journal which has review system
 
1995

JSICM revised the regulations and made 7 local societies which have annual meeting.
 
1998


JSCIM will hold 25th Congress in Tokyo forum, Tokyo. The president is Dr T Kubota, Prof, dept of Intensive Care Jichi Medical College and main theme will be "The aim of intensive care medicine in 19 century is development of medical science and respect dignity of patients".
