Message from the President

It is my great honor to host the 48th Annual Meeting (the "Meeting") of the Japanese Society of Intensive Care Medicine (JSICM) from Friday, February 12 to Sunday, February 14, 2021.
Due to the exceptional situation we are facing because of the COVID-19 outbreak and the travel restriction in place, all face to face section meetings have been cancelled. Members of this society play a central role in the treatment of critically ill patients with COVID-19. The number of critically ill patients is increasing again, and with the shortage of intensive care beds, the epidemic has been spreading for a long time and the members have been tired. There is a dilemma in holding an academic meeting at such times, but we decided to hold the web meeting style at home to home, where the burden on the members is the least, and set the general discussion so that live discussions can be held including overseas performers. I hope it will be an opportunity to share recent academic achievements.

The theme of the Meeting will be "Promotion of intensive care research and Strengthen international transmission power." In addition, "Neurocritical care" which is our life's work will be laid to solidify the foundation for the next step.

1. Promotion of clinical research and results strengthen international transmission power
With the goals of ESICM, ANZICS and SCCM, we are planning this conference that will be lead to establish our society's solid position internationally as a good competitor to Asian countries in mind.
When a physician, nurse, or medical staff-led clinical research team plans a multicenter, randomized controlled trial (RCT) of international standing, we provide assistance from the planning stage, such as subsidizing research costs. Furthermore, by supporting the external funding acquisition, we will produce results speedily and post the results on JINC (Journal of Intensive Care: Official Journal) and others. I think this process is important. I would like to share it with you in this conference.

2. Neurocritical care: laying the foundation for the next generation
We will discuss strategies and results of these studies, such as the dissemination of continuous acute EEG monitoring, collaboration between neurosurgery/neurology specialists and intensivists, and promotion of international multicenter randomized collaborative research, so that they can be passed on to the next generations.

Mainly based on the above, we will discuss the latest research, education, and medical care in various fields of intensive care and intensive care medicine. I would like to perform my duties by receiving various opinions from members in various fields.
 We appreciate your support.
