■Background of JSICM/KSCCM Joint Congress and Its Development

Japanese Association of Intensive Care Medicine (JSICM) and Korean Society of Critical Care Medicine (KSCC) Joint Scientific Congress

1.History

1999
Dr. Jun Takezawa from JSICM and Dr. Younsuck Koh from KSCCM proposed JSICM and KSCCM Joint Scientific Congress in order to enable professionals who work for intensive and critical care medicine in Japan and Korea to broaden their knowledge and strengthen mutual exchange with each other, actively make presentations in English, and promote friendship between two countries.

2001
Dr. Ikuto Yoshiya, Dr. Jun Takezawa, Dr. Masayuki Suzukawa, Dr. Hee Koo Yoo. Dr. Shin Ok Koh, and Dr. Younsuck Koh organized First JSICM and KSCCM Joint Scientific Congress at Asan Medical Center, Seoul.

2002
Dr. Masahisa Hirakawa organized Second JSICM and KSCCM Joint Scientific Congress in Okayama.

2003
Dr. Younsuck Koh organized Third JSICM and KSCCM Joint Scientific Congress in Seoul.

2004
Dr. Tsuyoshi Maekawa organized Fourth JSICM and KSCCM Joint Scientific Congress in Fukuoka.

Dr. Tsuyoshi Maekawa, President of Japanese Society of Intensive Care Medicine, and Dr. Sung-Su Chung, President of Korean Society of Critical Care Medicine, signed "The Agreement to Establish an Inter-Society Alliance Between the Japanese Society of Intensive Care Medicine and the Korean Society of Critical Care Medicine".

Since then, the JSCIM and KSCCM Joint Scientific Congress has been developed smoothly, and exchanges between two societies have been increased not only in the academic field but also in variety of fields.
